Welcome to COMS 130 - Introduction to Communication

This is our class wiki page, where students can find assignments, form groups,  write notes and turn in assignments.

We'll be using this page to organize the class.  All the links you need will be here.

We are going to take two basic approaches to learning in the class:

1. Traditional: Read the textbook (schedule) and take WebCT quizzes (both practice and actual quizzes) on the material. This involves the standard classroom approach where a short lecture / overview will help you recall and deal with materials.

2. Problem-based learning:  Explore media problems with your group. This will involve identifying a question or problem, exploring it with the help of RU library databases, and reporting on your findings.

Naturally, attendance will be especially important in the first two weeks of the class as we get organized.

In the second two weeks, we will meet in groups and over the web more often than in the classroom.  In the final week we will meet again in the classroom to discuss findings.

There will be an online mid-term and final exam to test your comprehension of the materials, but they will be based on the quizzes which you will already have taken.
